In order for the charitable contribution to be deductible, it must be to a qualified organization. If you’re not sure if the organization is qualified, you can use the EO Select Check tool from the IRS. The Exempt Organizations Select Check is an online search tool that allows users to search for and select an exempt organization and check certain information about its federal tax status and filings.
To take the deduction, you must have a written letter from the qualified organization with their name, the amount of the contribution, and the date. If you donate something other than cash, different rules may apply.
